Admitted Student Open House

When I was admitted to the Elliott School in spring of 2010, I did not have the opportunity to attend the Open House. As a California resident, it was rather costly to make the trip. Having participated last year as a current student though, I certainly recognize the value of this event. Below are ten reasons why you should attend if you can.

  1. You will have the opportunity to meet current students from your program along with your program director. This will give you the opportunity to get a “feel” for what your experience at the Elliott School will be like.
  2. Current students will give you the “inside scoop” on the classes and tips for navigating the relevant administrative processes that go with being a student.
  3. You’ll receive more details about the opportunities available through the Elliott School that will enrich your academic experience such as study abroad and career development opportunities.
  4. You will have the opportunity to meet professors with diverse expertise in the international affairs field and get a sense of the types of courses that you might be interested in taking.
  5. Meeting with other admitted students will give you the opportunity to form friendships with your colleagues before you arrive at the Elliott School!
  6. See the great location of the Elliott School first-hand and explore Washington, D.C.
  7. You will have the opportunity to view the amenities offered by the George Washington University such as Gelman Library, state-of-the-art gym facilities, our sports amphitheater, the Lisner Auditorium, and our black box theatre where students put on plays and various performances.
  8. Admissions staff will be available to answer any remaining questions you have about sending your final transcripts, economics requirements, etc.
  9.  Great food and libations!
  10. You will be able to make a more informed decision about where you attend graduate school.
