#IncomingElliott: Ashley Peter

Blog_ #EI PeterAshley Peter, MA International Science & Technology Policy, #IncomingElliott Current Student

Ashley Peter is a consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton currently supporting a contract with NASA Headquarters. Originally from Long Island, New York, Ashley has lived and worked in DC since graduating from MIT. There, she received a B.S. in Earth, Atmospheric & Planetary Sciences and Management Science. She now performs programmatic and strategic integration of NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS), Orion, and Exploration Ground Systems – the agency’s trio of deep space human exploration programs. Besides space, Ashley loves traveling (especially to Malaysia where her family is from), New York bagels, and soccer. She will begin her Master’s in International Science & Technology Policy with a focus in Space Policy at the Elliott School this fall.

What’s on your bucket list when you get to DC?

I’ve lived in DC for 3 years now, but a Segway tour is up there on my bucket list. Though I have to admit it’s pretty hypocritical of me since I’ve probably made fun of them before…

Is there anything about moving to DC/starting grad school that you’re nervous about?

I’m slightly nervous about balancing full-time work and grad school, and I know it’ll definitely be a challenge. But I’m really more nervous about not being able to play as much soccer in my intramural league anymore – it’s been one of the best parts of living in DC!

What are you looking forward to about starting your MA program?

I’m really excited to meet (and nerd out with) like-minded individuals who are just as passionate about space as I am. I’m also looking forward to meeting people in other Elliott School programs and hearing about their different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

How do you feel about pineapple on pizza?

If Gordon Ramsay says pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza, then don’t put pineapple on pizza. No one wants to be on Gordon Ramsay’s bad side.
